We are experiencing technical difficulties… OH… NO … DEFCON 3! This is how I Support my Breast cancer survivor!

Oh no not again. When I checked on Jessie mid-day yesterday I saw the sewing machine pulled apart   and she asked me “where is my oil can”. OH NO! The sewing machine is not working.
(Whenever this happens she goes into sewing machine repair woman mode. Sometimes she can fix it most times not with the newer machined.)

Here at Jessie’s Bags Main headquarters the sewing has stopped. I immediately went into our emergency procedures established during the2014 breakdown
Where is the backup sewing machine? It is the exact same machine. We own two just for this reason. Jessie must sew every day! (We bought it just before a major snow storm. We knew we could not be stuck in the house with nothing for Jessie to sew. If you look back I wrote a blog about it.)We pulled it out and horror of horror it is not working. We now have two (2) dead sewing machines….

I immediately texted my husband…. Emergency, emergency.

As I Told him about the problem he responded
  oh no! DEFCON 3!

What you don’t understand is if Jessie can’t sew the whole house is in an uproar.  Now Jessie likes to keep busy she needs something to do, so she now starts to help us…with every little thing we do…even when you don’t need two people to do what you are doing. Especially when you don’t want any help doing what you are doing. Let’s just say…. it is better when she has her sewing to keep her occupied.

So now #Jessiessewingmachineontheroad

Today I have to take 2 machines to be repaired.  We have about $30.00 in our account which will not repair these 2 machines and will not buy another machine. So look for Jessie’s bags everywhere I will probably be standing on the street (in the snow again today) trying to sell the bags. (If i lived in Hawaii at least it would be warmer.)
Fortunately we do have a few summer bags made up I will be able to use those to raise funds to purchase a new machine.

I guess we need 3 machines now as we are growing. And Jessie sews about 25 bags a week. No wonder she wears out the machines.

I wonder how does that Crowd-funding work we need $200.00 for a new machine.

Can we get 200 people to give me $1.00?
or 100 people to give us $2.00
maybe 10 people to give us $20.00
Who do I talk to about this?

We all survive different events throughout our lives. Some of the events are everyday life and death events (like my grandmothers death @ in her 90’s) some are more traumatic…. Dealing with events shapes us into who we are today.

I have been a survivor for most of my life.
I was about 2 years old when my big brother who was 3 died.
I survived my father being killed in an auto accident when I was a 12 year old child.
I survived losing a baby (I can’t believe it’s been 13 years now)
I survived Jessie’s Breast Cancer (Twice)

I guess this is why I try to always be positive and encouraging and supportive to others. I was raised reading the bible and praying I think this helps you not become an overly depressed person. Don’t get me wrong I have my moments when I am down but I can’t focus on all the negatives in my life. The old folks use to say count your blessings. There are so many positives in our lives sometimes you just have to look a little harder for them.

Maybe this is why I take so many pictures of sunsets and beautiful surroundings I’m looking for the beauty & positives in life.

Being a survivor

Jessie’s Bags focus has primarily been on Supporting Breast Cancer Survivors However Yesterday a friend and I delivered a few bags to the moms @ the NICU in Newark DE. I just learned about this Neonatal intensive care location about a week ago when one of my new friends talked about her baby spending time there. (she survived this! )This happy, beautiful child is now about 3 years old and full of energy.

Moms remember this …..The bible says God cares for us as individuals. Not only does each person know “his own plague and his own pain” but so does Jehovah!2 Chronicles 6:29, 30.

No mom should ever have to spend time at a NICU but if she is, we hope our Bag and note will encourage her during this difficult time. We hope to make enough bags to be able to reach out to more of the moms in the future.

puzzling pieces

All bags made by hand
We love to get others involved in the bag building process. We reach out to young ones in schools and to seniors who are retired.

Each person that works on our bags brings their perspective and flair to a bag. Sometimes I look at something someone else put together and I’m surprised, I would never have put that together but it works. This also helps our bags to be unique one of a kind.

Summer Colors

Recycled Materials
Yesterday Jessie was sorting through some fabrics one of the teenagers put together. She remarked this has two different colors over here its blue here then on the other side it’s black. She wasn't sure if I wanted her to change it. I remarked yes it is different but it works.
one of a kind unique colors

I often tell our volunteers there is no right & wrong way to put the fabrics together. Its OK you can’t mess it up. It might not be my conservative style or it may have a little too much artistic flair for my taste, but it works.

So join us and make bags. You don’t have to be crafty you don’t have to sew. You can sort fabrics. We have been changing over from working on winter pieces to summer fabrics.  You can’t mess it up. Every bag we make is different. Jessie’s Bags is an original one of a kind company, and we make one of a kind Bag. For us just like a puzzle it all fits together and works.

more snow thinking about Hawaii

As we are working on bags on this snow day i am thinking.......
I know there are Breast Cancer Survivors in Hawaii.
Jessie’s bags could be located anywhere. We can make bags and get volunteers to help us in a warmer tropical location.
Jessie's Bags  Hawaiian style beach bags.....
.
I may have to ask for donations to fund the relocation of Jessie’s Bags.

I have to remind my husband I bet there are No heating bills in Hawaii……This could be one major road trip…….

Did I mention I want to move to Hawaii?  I am not a fan of the cold and snow. I have always liked a snow day every now and then. I am noticing there are more snow days than not recently. Is it global warming? A shifting of the poles like in that movie…. It really doesn't matter I just need to move to Hawaii.

If you follow us on Instagram I am always threatening with major #’s to move.

#packthebagsand getmeatickettohawiaii its 19 degrees now but will be feeling below 0 today. Nobody should have to live in with this kind of temperature changes, especially not me. I have started an actively campaign to the family about the move. Did I mention I have been to Hawaii?  When I graduated high school Jessie took me to the big Island for an International Convention it was Awesome! That is probably why I want to go back. So this is Jessie’s fault. My husband agreed to go if I could make enough money to support us so he doesn't have to work. So I am working on it now. How much did I make so far with the advertising on this blog? $0.01 OK
All we need to make bags + a sewing machine

…so …. Every penny counts I only need …..

#pleaseBuyaBagIwanttomovetohawaii

I asked Jessie if she wanted to move with me to Hawaii she said no I've already been…

Let me Introduce myself

Hello, for those of you who I haven’t met I would like to introduce myself, am Jessie's Daughter.

Jessie and I started making the bags together in 2006. I picked up the first fabric for her at a yard sale.  I put the fabrics together for her to sew. I did not know what I was getting into.

Jessie's Bags has recently become a full time project for me. I hate to sew but love the creative process of putting the fabrics together. I have a commercial art degree and our Instagram and blog has been my creative outlet.
WE are officially now Jessie's Bags LLC so as of 2015 I am Jessie's bags.
I am the bag designer, blogger, the photographer, fund raiser, brand manager, card writer, pick up & delivery department. I do everything but sew. Did I mention I hate sewing?

I am the face you will see at all of the events we attend. Jessie does make it to some of the programs; however she would rather be at home sewing. The cold weather also keeps her in. The knees ache and she is 85 so sometimes she just doesn't feel good.

I am making a few changes to Jessie’s bags. We are now selling some of the bags on our web site       ( jessiesbags.com) and using a portion of the proceeds to fund Jessie’s bags for breast Cancer survivors. In this way we are hoping to be able to reach out to more survivors.

We are looking to keep the cost down by getting volunteers to help us and we hope our suppliers will continue to support us with donations.

We would like to expand Jessie’s original idea and reach out to other groups. We are planning to drop off some bags this week to some mothers with babies in the Children’s ICU. One of our friends had a child there a few years ago and we hope these bags will be useful and make a mom smile.

We are also hosting a corporate bag building workshop. The attendees will make a small donation spend a little time and help us put together some bags. We hope to do this at other locations in 2015.

If you see where we are going with our Jessie’s Bags Idea contact us & join us for the ride. We will update the blog and post pictures of JESSIESBAGSONTHEROAD…..

If you saw a strange ad on my blog i am so sorry!
