As we age some of the changes are obvious like grey hair or wrinkles.
Some are more subtle. The sewing machine trauma of the last few days has
highlighted some things. Jessie doesn't handle change well. Things sometimes
get confused and it is hard to do something new. We bought an old singer
machine one like Jessie use to have. One she could take apart and repair if she
wanted to. This One had no computer parts. I thought this would be the
solution. It only added to the stress we went to def. con 3.
The problem was the way the bobbin threaded, it was
different to the computerized machined Jessie had been working on for the last
2 years. I saw her frustration she could not figure out how to make it work. So
I learned from this I cannot introduce anything new into the sewing equation. We
have to keep things the same we needed the same machine we need to keep things
simple and uncomplicated.
Sewing is such a major part of her life it really is the
thing that keeps her having a purpose and it keeps her alive. Every day a part
of her day is spent sewing. She really enjoys sewing. When we didn't have a
working machine it was a major traumatic
event in our house.
We have calm today because even though the storm is raging
outside there is contentment and happiness in the world of Jessie’s bag. Now I have to get the other machine repaired. Hayes Sewing Machine here we come. And if we ever get any money we are investing in another back up sewing machine The same one again.
The machine is called Singer Confidence, and it is giving 84
year old Jessie confidence that she knows how to sew.
